The Process
In a nutshell, the process of each painting progressed through
the following stages:
1. Gesso is applied to stretched canvas and allowed a minimum of
24 hours drying time.
2. Paintings begin by applying Burnt Sienna and Burnt Umber for
basic layout and design.
3. A thin layer of white is brushed over the entire canvas.
4. Subsequent layers of the colors Burnt Sienna and Burnt Umber
are applied, adding more detail.
5. Multiple layers of color are added with various brushwork techniques
for affect.
6. Final details added until complete.
Obviously, it sounds simple until you dive into each phase of the
painting. Each painting is a little different, each unique in its
requirements. However, they are all incredibly challenging; learning
is a continuous process of development.
